About the festival

2008 is the second year of our Divertimenti in Prague string quartet festival and our continuing inspiration is to provide a showcase for the celebration of some of today's leading Czech string quartets. These ensembles build upon a rich and distinct musical tradition of Czech quartet playing and it is our pleasure to present them to you in this dedicated summer festival.

Prague has been home to many legendary string quartets over the years and the quartets to be presented in our Divertimenti in Prague festival this year are no exception, ranging from the internationally celebrated Prazak, Kocian and Stamic Quartets, to the exciting dynamism of the young Herold Quartet.

Patron – Josef Suk

We are honoured and thrilled to have the greatest living Czech musician, Josef Suk as the patron of our Festival. Mr. Suk is a world acclaimed virtuoso, but also represents a direct link to the musical heritage of the Czech Republic, being the grandson of the composer Josef Suk and the great grandson of perhaps the most famous Czech composer Antonin Dvorak. We are deeply appreciative of his support for us and commitment to the further continuity of the Czech musical scene.
